Short Itinerary : Seine Boat Tour Cruises from Paris to La Fournaise

- Sailing to Chatou, the impressionists’ island
- Located in the heart of the Impressionists Land, you will discover this island ornamented by colors which vary with the hours and seasons. The island, which at the end of the 19th century witnessed numerous entertainments along its banks, has known a second birth.
- Guided tour of the Museum of the Fournaise. The village “Fournaise” was painted by the greatest impressionist and fauvist artists, and has been a gathering place for artists and poets since then. Pierre Auguste Renoir discovered Chatou and its banks during a walk with Prince Bibesco, a customary client of the restaurant Fournaise, in 1868. With Claude Monet, he settled his easel at the floating café “La Grenouillère”, two kilometers away from Chatou. The two painters were still in their twenties. They started a series of paintings. The water, the light and boating activity are the main subjects representing the maturity of the impressionistic movement. Chatou and its surroundings have definitely entered the history of painting. During more than fifteen years, from 1868 to 1884, Renoir regularly stayed in Chatou to paint.
